Question about getting a VA loan

Asked by Ryan, Centreville, VA Mon Mar 20, 2017

Hi, my question is if I will be able to qualify for a VA loan. I've been renting all of my working life and thought maybe I should stop throwing my money away. I'm a veteran and as of last year I am self-employed, but that's after working many years for a private company after the military. My past 2 years (2015, 2014) taxable gross, were 92k, and 129k respectively, but I haven't filed for 2016 yet, which will be considerably less, probably less than 20k. I'm also currently using my GI bill which brings in approx. $1,300 per month for housing allowance. I know housing allowances aren't non-taxable so it may not count for mortgage purposes, just thought I'd mention it. Also, I have just over 200k in my savings and my credit scores as of today are, 810 (experian), and 819 (transunion). Before I sign another apartment lease I wanted to see if I could get a VA mortgage. Can anyone help me out?

Hello, I'm a mortgage professional.

Based on what you detailed you would qualify for a VA mortgage.
