A lot depends on the kind of notice and the particular court. Some papers must be in hand served. Is it a notice to appear with documents or physical objects? Was it signed by the court or a clerk. There are just so many questions that answering based on your question would be irresponsible. Maybe you had plans to be away on Monday, or have a conflicting court appointment. Maybe its a scam.

Hi Tharealqueenroc,
I have lived in both areas, am comfortable when I walk through the streets like they are my home because THEY ALL are my neighborhood! You didn't indicate a budget, but I have one in mind.
First things first, reference the link below for all areas to be considered from a buyer's perspective.
Next, get in touch with an EXPERIENCED lending provider. I know the best in the business.
Lastly, give me a ring or text and say #SHOWTIME
All the best in your house hunt!

@Gail -- Thanks for your recommendation. The specification for Queens has everything to do with locale. Since transaction will involve several members of the family and since we are based in Queens, it just would be easier to get things done logistically. Obviously, this is subject to change pending a few criteria.... more
You can be a guarantor as long as you are accepted by the landlord for your daughter. What you own has nothing to do with being a guarantor. You will need excellent credit and enough income to pay her rent should she default on her lease... more
Check out Montclair, NJ. It is one of the best suburbs within 30 mins of NYC. You will find the arts, restaurants and everything else you are looking for.
In New Jersey, there is a great train service called the Midtown Direct Line. Depending on the community you choose to live in that this train services, you can be in Manhattan in 20 minutes. In some towns, like Montclair, you can walk to the station because this town has so many stops. If you have never looked at Montclair, it is a great town with Zagat rated restaurants, live theatre, art museums, parks, and lots of activities to offer. There's a Farmers Market on weekends and always something to do. The homes are not "cookie cutter"... not developments, like everyone thinks is all that New Jersey has. The schools are based on the magnet school concept.
If you have any other questions about this area of New Jersey, don't hesistate to contact me.
Good luck with your search.... more

A good suburb not very artsy, but wakable, with good commute to NYC and more is White Plains in the Westchester County. Tarrytown and Plaisantville are close from White Plains. I lived there for 5 years and I miss it!

I am a Licensed Broker in Westchester County which has many towns in your price range. There are three Metro North Train lines (Hudson, Harlem & New Haven) which have very convenient service to Grand Central Station.

I think the most important step would be to identify a home you would like to purchase. Once you sign a contract a closing should generally take place within 60 days although be prepared for it to take up to 90 days.

Marco any building can be purchaed via FHA IF it's approved, and the managment is willing to spend the money to do so. The key is not to have Flippe believe that any building he chooses is available to him via a FHA purchase.... more
We, as lincensed real estate agents/brokers are not allowed to respond to the concept of a "good" or "bad" neighborhood. To do so could be considered discriminatory or steering. Both of which are illegal.
I agree with Michele below that you should walk the neighborhood at various times of the day and night to get a "feel" for the area so you can make an informed decision. After all, you are the final arbiter of your own safety. Good luck.... more
Thanks everyone, I was just confused becuase I have read in different places to have checks on you at time of application. It was my understanding deposits were due at lease signing, but I have read to put a deposit with the application to hold the apartment. Would that instead be called a "holding fee"? If so, do holding fees need to be certified checks? And is the holding fee the same amount or less than the depsoit? I always thought less, but just want to be sure.... more
Honestly, the best thing to do in your situation is to use a USA guarantor if you have one. If you do not have one, perhaps consider paying 6 months to a 1 year upfront. I've found housing for unemployed clients before with ease. You just have to be prepared for what the landlord may ask for. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions as to how to go about this.
