Are you talking about the older asbestos shingles?
I have heard from general contractors that the best thing to do is to go over them with siding. They are not dangerous until they are broken. That's when the asbestos is released into the air.
I would recommend you do your due diligence and search the internet for more information.... more

I beg to differ...the odor on the north end of Secaucus by the town pool is so horrible that I want to vomit everytime I drive by it. My parents live near the town pool and they step out of their house everyday particularly in the summer time to the most foul sewer odor you can possibly imagine. I wouldn't buy a house near that area or rentone. The bugs, mosquitoes, gnats, etc. are overwhelming. They have to do something about that bug problem too.
Also in terms of flooding, Secaucus doesn't have proper drainage of water. When it rains really hard the water can get so high that it can seep into your car if you are in certain areas that are prone to flooding. Park your car on a hill when high volumnes of rain are exprected and then at least your car is safe. But as far as your home, if you don't have french drains installed, get them installed before you buy your home.....
Best of luck to all of those that plan on buying homes in Secaucus or renting in that area.

I am pleasantly surprised when it comes to the school system here so far I have had a great experience at the Clarendon School. My child started Pre-K which at the time was 2.5 hours every day M-F (it might be half or full day in the future from what I hear). His teacher was top notch. She was great with the kids. I thought pre-K would be just play time and singing songs. At age 3-4 they make sure your child knows how to recite his or her street address and telephone number and they begin writing. Very good skills to get them started in Kindergarten. They put on an amazing performance at the end of the year. I hear not all towns offer pre-K so that is a plus. And it gets you started in the elementary school system. My child is now in Kindergarten and again I am very happy with the class and especially his teacher. So far that is 2 for 2, a very good record! She is GREAT. Within only a few weeks she has him reading and writing well. So I would say as a mom of two, the elementary schools in Secaucus are very good. Maybe someone else will shed light on the middle school and HS. Also another thing to consider is the town recreation. I didn't realize how much of a benefit the town run recreation was for us. Around age 4 all the fun begins. He started a learn to skate class, gymnastics class, a hockey class, a swim class. And you wouldn't believe the price, around $30 for several weeks, almost 3 months even. And some activities you get a tee shirt and a small medal or kids trophy. That alone was worth the $30. They had tee ball and soccer (which he loved) and flag football at 5. Just fabulous! This town is great for kids. It really is. Low taxes and they put the money into activities for the children.... more
