Yes, there is a lot of criminal activity going on and the police are doing all that they can to
curb it.. The low income high rise project closed some years back and those residents have relocated in the are. Not to say that they were criminals, on the contrary, many are decent, hard working, law-abiding citizens. But quite a few engaged in unlawful acts to survive and it seems the unattended and ill-raised youth are perpetuating this hopeless behavior.
we as neighbors do look out for each other but can do only so much. Most of the males who loiter on the street, and on the corners are either selling or using drugs with a very small number being neighborhood folk just outside enjoying themselves. It has been hard for me to keep the loiterers off my property for fear of violence from admonishing them kindly for leaving trash on my lawn and walkway or telling them that they are making to much noise in front of my home. The police will make them move but then they end up right back or just a few homes down. I myself will be moving to a much less crime ridden section of the city when I locate a comparable home.. I only wish I had done some more research of this area before settling here... more
It is a city, so as long as you are smart and not stumbling home alone at 1 am you should be fine. The neighborhood isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either, but I would definitely say it is on the rise. The place you are looking at is only a couple blocks from the police station and you are about a block from Madira Bar which was voted top 10 new bars in Philly last year. You are also only a couple blocks from the American Sardine Bar. I don't currently live in Point Breeze, however I am in the process of buying a house on that block. Everyone I have spoke with says that as long as you are smart you are fine.... more
