There are some cultures where they will not live close to a cemetery . . So you will certainly have a smaller pool of potential buyers.

I've found them to be a mixed bag.

Some buyers consider them good neighbors (quiet, and nobody is going to build something that blocks your view on the property)... others have cultural issues with them, and some just consider them to be creepy.

I don't sell real estate in New York city, but if I did, I'd drink Dos Equis. Drink up life, my friend.

Has anyone had a NYC experience where a cemetery was a selling point?

There are few things to consider when you're selling any property: location, condition, market conditions, and price. Ultimately, if the property is priced right, with all things considered, the right Buyer will come along.

It depends on the buyer. I have had problems in the past showing properties that were close to a cemetery. Some think it is bad luck so would never look at property that may have a view of a nearby graveyard regardless of the price.

Selling country property as I do, I often run into cemeteries on the properties that I sell. I recall at least one sale that fell through because of a cemetery and I can't think of a single one where it helped. Most folks do not mind; some do. My standing joke is that the neighbors are quiet.

Hi Metroreporter. I would have to agree with Terry. Although location is very high on every buyers list of wants, price can sometimes (many times) trump specific location. I have sold property within proximity to a cemetary before. While it was a non starter for some buyers, it didn't matter to many as other neighborhood and building aspects worked well for them. These other things, to name a few were (in the case of Coops/Condos) Quality of the apartment (new construction or renovation), building amenities, floor height. Other aspects are proximity to transportation, shopping, schools and the overall neighborhood. I hope this helps.

Metroreporter, not every place is for everyone. My opinion after 20 +years of selling real estate-For the right price-everything sells. I have sold many properties with cemeteries either next door, or in the backyard or around the corner...... Terry K 718-614-3167 cell or email TKorahais@elliman.com

Locations are always a matter of personal preferences...
