Young in age, yet rich in history, Cape Coral was discovered in 1957 by Leonard and Jack Rosen. The Rosens purchased 103 square miles of tract that was once known by locals as "the other side of the river", and soon began development.  Later that year, the Gulf American Corporation (GAC) was formed by the Rosens and development commenced.  Over 400 miles of canals were dug and the fill that came from the canals was used to bring the island up to the mandatory 5'6" above sea level. In 1958 the first residents moved into the area and by 1959 waterfront homes, water view homes and riverfront homes were being sold. In 1970 the city of Cape Coral was incorporated with a population of 11,470!

The miles of canals has been a huge selling point for Cape Coral, as each canal provides access to the beautiful Gulf of Mexico without any low bridges, making boat travel as simple as it gets! Located on the Gulf Coast of Florida and bordered by the Caloosahatchee River and Matlacha Pass, Cape Coral continues to grow rapidly and has become one of the fastest growing areas in Florida! If you are looking for waterfront property, Cape Coral is the place to look!
